WEIRD, OR WHAT?

From time to time (well, quite often actually) I find myself wondering why I bother to blog. It’s childish, I blab about private stuff, I sometimes cringe at the things I write and make a vow to stop. …and then something strikes me as sad, funny, peculiar, wonderful or just plain daft and there I go again, writing about it.

This morning I was in this mood. Stop it Ann, grow up, behave yourself and then I saw this saw this and here I go again.

I know, it’s only washing on a line. Nothing special or spectacular in that you may say but let me tell you that it’s 7 o’clock on a Sunday morning and what you can’t make out is that it’s pouring with rain. Now know that I could be considered the Queen of Weirdness but my neighbour pips me to post for that particular award. She always pegs her washing on the line very early in the morning, but ONLY if it’s raining. Am I missing something here?

And finally, the nicest thing about the future is it always starts tomorrow.

How strange! Maybe she likes the smell of them when they've been rained on but it doubles the time it takes to do the job. As I said, how strange. Can you ask her why she does it? Flick xx

RAC - Perhaps she thinks the rain will soften her washing - have I heard that a rainwater rinse softens hair? Maybe not - its probably just me being weird! A x

No need to ask her. I have it on good authority that your neighbour pounds her smalls with a stone and then puts them out to rinse in the rain. It's called being green - not wasting the country's energy by using a washing machine.

And, by the way, doesn't the future begin in a moment?

PLEASE don't stop blogging. I must have my morning fix of your rants ...

Well Flick, I remember from my days of pegging out washing that it was best to bring it in when it rained because rain makes everything smelly. I couldn't ask her, she is pretty much unapproachable.

That is also a weird fact isn't it Anne. Why does rain soften hair and harden clothes? Not a lot of people could answer that. Where is Michael Caine when you need him?

I think that your logic is flawed DogLover because what, I ask myself, would she do with her smalls during a drought. On second thoughts don't bother to answer that!

So glad I read your blog so early on a Sunday morning as I sit feeling sorry for myself because my throat is sore and not feeling real great, it's raining out and getting cooler (I must turn up the heat). But a good laugh is just what I needed. Flagmaker

Thats what I keep asking RAC!! A x

Perhaps she prefers putting washing out in the rain so it can stop raining and shine down on it, rather than putting it out in the sun and have it stop shining and start raining?

No?

Oh, well. Just a thought. LOL|!

Well, I found myself pegging out washing in the rain last week. The between-rain intervals have been so short recently that it was the only way to increase the chance of hitting one. And the washing did indeed dry later on in the day; it wouldn't have done in the house. But I must confess that this was an exception to my normal approach to laundry.

I'm glad I made you laugh Flagmaker keep your pecker up.

You would have a point there Jay, if it were not for the fact that she ONLY puts washing out under cover of darkness and when it's POURING with rain. Why?

I know what you're saying guineapigmum, but that logic does not seem to apply in this case.

There's also the fact that she has it up that early on a Sunday morning! My God - no pun intended - but she must be driven!

We aren't allowed to hang wash outside...isn't that stupid!

www.retiredandcrazy.com said...

Oh, it's not only Sunday aims, she does this any day that it rains heavy.

I must admit that I haven't hung washing out for years. It all goes in my un-PC drier and comes out ready for folding so that I don't have to use my un-PC iron.

More peculiar to my mind is what on earth are those items hanging on the right - looks like a giant pair of knickers with mauve trim?!

How odd - perhaps the rain makes the washing smell fresher? Or something? Not very original, I see, but can't think of any other reason. M xx

Margot, I must confess that she had washing out in the sun this week. Maybe she reads the blog?

I think it's hilarious. I always peg my laundry only when it's raining as well. I don't intend it that way, it just seems to always rain the days I get my clothes out on the line (yes, the UK's terrible summer is my fault). I'm glad you blog, and am enjoying reading backwards...
