FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE?

What occupied the thoughts of President Vladimir Putin this week? The crisis in Georgia? The global credit crunch? Wrong! A couple of nights ago he was to be seen on TV discussing the European Song Contest with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. What's that all about? It’s a funny old world isn’t it?

I just had a call from my grandson Vinnie. The place where he works, Fish & Pips, is featured on the front page of the Guardian Travel supplement today. Anyone for champers & canapés? Sounds good doesn’t it? No wonder he loves working there. http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2009/jan/17/skiing-wintersports-france-chalet

And finally …. "I have a degree in liberal arts"
"Do you want fries with that?"

Putin and Andrew Lloyd Webber talking about the Eurovision Song Contest was a bit bizarre. Not sure what to make of that. Didn't give good eye contact when I saw it!

Wonderful that Vinnie is getting recognised for the service at the place of work!

Fries with anything makes it better! And a degree to boot...well, once the ski season is over perhaps he can think a little more as to just how he wants to fry that degree!

"Rare Thai beef salad, salmon steamed in tom yum broth and griddled pineapple with homemade coconut ice cream - uninhibited imbibing and increasingly hilarious conversation".

Sounds good!

Do we understand that your grandson Vinnie did all that cooking? I see that the owners are Cordon Bleu trained, so perhaps they in fact do the cooking and Vinnie just goes out on the piste?

I expect I've got it wrong and you'll have your usual go at me ...

It was an odd interview wasn't it Maggie. Putin was obviously not comfortable, but how on earth did they pursuade him to do it? Weird!

I'm with you on that one Lin, a good place of chips will brighten up any day.

You can say that again Anne.

The way that it works DogLover is that Vinnie prepares the menu and then 'phones the guests prior to stay to go over it with them.

Fish and Pips have (I believe) 6 properties and Vinnie has sole responsibility for the catering at Chalet Braye.

crazy [since I discovered you were the wife and not the husband, some time ago, I then assumed that, as per Mr & Mrs, he is retired and you are crazy. Sorry. ;-)]

Anyway, I would imagine that ALW was asking Putin what on earth was going on with the block-voting system of the Eastern European countries, and Putin was explaining to him how Russia isn't cutting off our oil suppies.

Isn't that how it goes? x

I thought the Eurovision Song Contest was being scrapped. Or is that just wishful thinking? It won't be the same no matter what, without Terry.

No Billy, wrong again! We are both TRYING to retire and both crazy.

I think they did talk about scrapping it CJ, but obviously decided not to. I'm with you on the Terry Wogan thing. He IS Eurovision.
